Chevrolet Traverse
Out of all the Chevrolet cars on the market, the Chevrolet Traverse is one of the most popular in the Toronto, Ontario area. It's not difficult to understand why. It's the perfect family car. It's larger than the traditional family sedan. It's more practical than the SUV. And it has none of the style problems that the classic minivan does. In fact, the Traverse may be a perfect family-oriented blend of all three.
Technically, the Traverse is a full-size crossover SUV, but that label doesn't do it justice. Chevrolet makes it available in three trims: LS, LT, and LTZ. The LS is the standard equipment package, and it's impressive at this price point. Along with all of the basics that consumers demand, this package includes split-folding bench seats in the second and third row, a 6-speaker CD/MP3 audio system, satellite radio, and OnStar.
The mid-tier LT package is available at two levels, which is a nice touch. LT1 allows a family to get some of the more common non-option luxuries without buying the whole shebang. LT2 adds gadgets like rear-parking sensors to the LT1's Bluetooth connectivity and USB ports. The luxurious LTZ includes all non-superfluous items from the LT trim as well as leather upholstery, a rear-view camera, and even a DVD-based navigation system with real-time traffic.
The Traverse has but one engine, a 3.6-liter V6 mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. The LS and both LT models have a single-outlet exhaust, which allows the V6 to produce 281 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. The LTZ model, on the other hand, includes a dual-outlet exhaust, which provides 288 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. All of these configurations are available in either front-wheel- or all-wheel-drive.
A used Chevrolet Traverse is a viable option. However, consumers should note that since Chevrolet just launched the Traverse in 2009, there isn't a great deal of savings to be had here unless you're willing to take on a lot of mileage. The only real difference between the 2009 and 2010 models is that Chevrolet did not add the USB audio connection until 2010.
